Shortly after World War I, brothers Hamilton and Hollis Parrish opened a service station in Burke. They were sons of Bingham and Maggie Parrish, who lived not far south of Lufkin.
Later when Hamilton died from wounds suffered in World War I, Hollis and Hamilton's widow sold the station to their sister Tusie and her husband Claude Smith, who operated the store until they sold it to Sam Courtney in the 1930s.
Hollis and Hamilton's brother Lloyd later owned and operated Lufkin Supply in Lufkin.
