In the 1950s the L. B Neyland family lived on the south end of the Burke School District on the Old Diboll Highway. L. B.'s son Harold was a classmate of the author at Burke School in the 1950's, and he currently lives on a farm north of Burke.
Joshua Louis Neyland, born in 1812 in Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, came to Angelina County about 1860 and lived at Jonesville near Huntington where he died in 1867. Joshua's son Francis Harris Neyland married Martha Sarah Treadwell, daughter of Stephen J. Treadwell and his first wife Faith Jordan. Most of the family moved to other locatons in Texas, and Francis died in Gonzalez in 1907. Martha died in Onalaska in Polk County in 1929.
The youngest son of Francis and Martha, Jasper Steve Neyland, born in 1879, either remained in or returned to Angelina County and lived at Burke in 1930. He married Rosa Lee Butler at Apple Springs. Jasper died in 1946 and Rosa in 1977, both in Angelina County.
